World Open Innovation Conference 2025 recap

World Open Innovation Conference 2025 BIlbao

WOIC 2025 in Bilbao was our third consecutive attendance. And in these three years we have seen a lot of positive changes. Here is a summary:

It is easier to learn from research and practice of others

The main goals of WOIC is to share the knowledge between researchers and practitioners, and it is doing this very well. But this does not mean that it was easy for us because in the start we did not know how to do it. But thanks to the openness of the WOIC community and everyone attending WOIC we found our fit. The experience of learning from research and practice of others is mind-blowing and energizing, and feels easier this year. We needed time to figure it out.

Open innovation horizontal expansion

There are more diverse projects and research. South Korean government presented their open innovation diplomacy project which includes dozens of countries, several ministries, and hundreds of diplomats and managers. At the same time we presented our Lovato and 8003 ITALIA open innovation projects with a carefully curated local experts. Research also varied greatly from new concepts like temporal perception of management to Dungeons & Dragons open innovation.

AI is slowly becoming practical

It is inevitable that AI becomes an integral part of open innovation. There were projects already using AI to automate steps in open innovation process, reducing errors, increasing efficiency, and improving results. AI will become more and more relevant in coming years as an enabler of open innovation both for companies and innovators.

Overall WOIC is a great project that keeps getting better.

We wish to thank our clients Lovato and 8003 Italia for using OPEN OS for their amazing open innovation projects.

We also want to thank Henry Chesbrough, Ruperto Calatrava, Ana Orelj, Marcel Bogers, and everyone in the WOIC community.

We hope to qualify next year as well.
